ESSAYS, STORIES & APPLICATIONS

Writing tutoring.
From outline to revision.

I help students research, outline, draft, and revise complete pieces of writing: school essays, personal essays, application essays, and stories.

I give specific feedback on the actual draft.

I start with the assignment and the idea the student wants to communicate.

I use short editing exercises and published essays to teach sentence structure, organization, and the use of detail.

What I work on with the student.

01

Research & outlines

I help the student gather useful information, decide what belongs in the piece, and build an outline detailed enough to guide the first draft.

02

Arguments & evidence

I ask what the paragraph claims, what evidence supports it, and what explanation is still missing. I cut repetition and help distinguish an example from an argument.

03

Personal & application essays

I help the student choose specific experiences and explain why they matter. I ask questions, give feedback, and keep the writing in the student’s own voice.

04

Grammar & independent editing

I use passages with errors to practice sentence boundaries, agreement, punctuation, and modifiers. I also ask students to explain corrections or write a grammar quiz with an answer key.

05

Stories & descriptive detail

I work on scene, sequence, character motivation, and details that help a reader picture what is happening. I review whether each event follows clearly from the one before it.

06

Revision

I assign another draft with specific priorities. I ask the student to read critically, fix the identified problems, and look for similar issues elsewhere in the piece.

A WRITING EXERCISE I USE

200 words. Two reasons. One example.

A short assignment lets me see how a student develops an argument and how much they can improve through independent revision.

  1. Write a 200-word argument with two reasons and one specific example.
  2. Spend ten minutes revising it independently.
  3. Bring the draft to the lesson so I can review the argument, sentences, and remaining errors with you.
GETTING STARTED

Tell me what
you’re working on.

Send me the assignment prompt, deadline, and any draft or outline. If the goal is general writing improvement, tell me the student’s grade and what they find difficult.
