Sentence structure & punctuation
I teach how to recognize a complete clause and choose the punctuation between clauses. I also review agreement, pronouns, possessives, verb forms, and modifiers.
I teach the skills tested on the PSAT and carried forward to the SAT. I use practice work to find the algebra, sentence structure, or reading questions that need attention.
For younger students, I often work on slope, triangle area, the Pythagorean theorem, and complete sentences. For stronger students, I move into harder grammar, systems word problems, quadratic discriminants, and checking for extraneous solutions.
I use Bluebook practice tests and ask you to retry missed questions before reading the answers. In the lesson, I review the questions you still cannot resolve and assign practice on those skills.

I ask you to identify the main claim, support an inference with words from the passage, and explain why a vocabulary choice fits the sentence.
I work on equations, systems, inequalities, functions, and slope. I connect the algebra to a graph and ask you to interpret what the solution means.
I teach students to use Desmos for equations, systems, inequalities, and quadratic graphs. I recommend practicing in Bluebook so the calculator and review tools are familiar.
I review area, right triangles, percentages, and data questions. I ask you to define the quantities and translate the wording before calculating.
I separate missing knowledge from misreading and timing problems. Homework targets the skill behind the missed question, rather than repeating an entire topic you already know.
PSAT 8/9 is a starting point for eighth- and ninth-grade skills. PSAT 10 is the spring test for tenth graders. PSAT/NMSQT is the fall test used for National Merit consideration, normally in junior year.
The Selection Index weights Reading and Writing twice as much as Math.
For example, 700 in each section gives an index of 210.
Send me your grade, the PSAT you are taking, the test date, and your most recent practice scores. Mention National Merit if that is part of your goal.
