From algebra to calculus.
I teach arithmetic through college mathematics, including IB Math, statistics, linear algebra, and differential equations. I also prepare students for MATHCOUNTS and AMC 8/10.
I look at the steps, not just the answer.
A student can be taking an advanced course and still be held up by fractions, signs, or rearranging equations. I ask them to show their work so I can find the point where the reasoning breaks down.
I use your course material to connect that explanation to what you are studying now. For competition preparation, I also work on problems where choosing an approach is the main difficulty.
What I teach.
Geometry & trigonometry
I explain angle relationships, similarity, coordinate geometry, right triangles, and trigonometric functions. I ask students to label diagrams and justify the relationships they use.
Precalculus & calculus
I teach functions, transformations, exponentials, logarithms, limits, derivatives, and integrals. I connect symbolic work to graphs and the meaning of the result.
Statistics & college math
I tutor statistics, linear algebra, and differential equations. Send me the syllabus and current topics so I can plan the lesson around your course.
IB Math
I help students work through the algebra, functions, calculus, probability, and statistics in their course. I use their assignments and recent tests to set priorities.
MATHCOUNTS & AMC 8/10
I teach counting, number properties, geometry, and algebraic problem solving. I ask students to compare methods and explain why an argument works.
HOW I USE AN ERROR
A fraction can reveal an algebra gap.
If a student cancels part of a sum, I return to what cancellation actually means: dividing the numerator and denominator by the same factor.
Example
(x + 6) / x = 1 + 6/x
For x ≠ 0, I can divide each term by x. I cannot cancel x and leave 6.
I then ask the student to check both expressions with a value such as x = 2.
